Irrigation Tasmania

Filtration

In Irrigation Tasmania’s Water Technology Division, the majority of the systems that are designed and manufactured in our workshops, are used for the removal of undesirable chemicals, materials, and biological contaminants from raw water.

Our goal is to produce water fit for a specific purpose. Most water is purified for human consumption (potable water) but water purification may also be designed for a variety of other purposes.  These include meeting the requirements of medical, pharmacology, chemical agricultural and industrial applications, and to treat waste water for the purpose of reusing, rather than discarding this precious commodity after a single use.

In general, the methods we apply can include physical processing by filtration and sedimentation, biological processes such as Agar bioreactors and activated sludge, or chemical processes such as flocculation and chlorination. The method we use for disinfection is based on case-specific assessment and can include electromagnetic radiation such as ultraviolet light or hydro optics, ozone, chlorine or chlorine dioxide or a combination of any of these processes.
